We all took a cab to Atakule Mall today to buy a birthday present just before Merzuka's Birthday Party, right down the road. I failed the ordering at Burger King test once again (same counter clerk as last time--she didn't really want to play the guessing game with me--and we ended up with one order of 4 chicken strips instead of 3 kids meals with chicken strips). I don't understand how if the menu is in English I can't order the items as listed on the menu and get what I want. But pretty soon I'll just stop trying there I suppose.
We found her a gift, I remembered to tell the clerk it was a gift (they'll wrap almost anything for you!), and we were off on our way to find Merzuka's apartment building. It was all good until we realized that the road we were looking for from our map didn't exist! We cut across a big field and found the building, dropped Lacey off, and headed back to the mall for more browsing and some proper lunch since Lacey was the only one to get any food from Burger King (I had lost my patience and given up trying to order more food).
We had a nice lunch at Sade Cafe in the upper floor of the mall and enjoyed our meal together. Then we headed out to the Botanik Garden next to the mall to take in some fall/winter scenes and use up some more time until the party was over and Lacey was ready to be picked up. Here are some pictures...which ones did Brian take and which ones did Maren take?
Maren studiously composed a photo of him in the act...
After the garden and picking up Lacey we came home for a movie night with Paul's family. We had planned to order in Arjantin Kebap, but since Tim and Nuray didn't come, none of us could speak Turkish to make the order! So Brian and Paul went down to Aspava and brought back some dinner to go along with the yummy su boregi that Paul and Becky had brought over. All the girls (me, Lacey, Maren, Becky, Emma, and Katherine)--and Aeden--played a rousing game of Uno while we waited. There were some wicked "Draw 2" cards and "Skip" cards played amongst these mothers and daughters! We watched a favorite movie we brought with us: Appleseed Ex Machina. I've heard it countless times but never watched it, but it is a Japanese Animae shoot-em-up movie that has great animation. Now I don't need to worry about watching it again, once was enough for me!
